In 2009, the economy was at rock bottom, but one tech-infrastructure provider was leasing space — 3,010 square feet of it, according to the Nov. 2 Mainebiz of that year. The company was Portland-based Tilson Technology & Management, which has since become one of Maine’s fastest growing companies, twice honored as such by Mainebiz. Today Tilson occupies most of 16 Middle St., with its name on the outside of the building. By 2018, it had more than 400 employees and sales of $77 million.
Fun fact: In 2009 the Blackberry was the device of choice. The Oct. 19, 2009, issue of Mainebiz had a full-page ad that featured the Blackberry Tour, which could be had for $149.99 plus the monthly data plan. For the old-school types, the ad also listed the Blackberry Pearl, a flip phone offered at $19.99.
