Acadia park adds $248M to local economy in 2015

Acadia National Park’s approximately 2.81 million visits contributed $248 million in direct visitor spending to the local economy in 2015, according to park officials.

“Acadia attracts visitors from across the country and around the world who come here to experience its unparalleled scenery, extraordinary recreational opportunities and wonderful gateway communities,” Acadia National Park Superintendent Kevin Schneider said in a press release reported by the Bangor Daily News. “Acadia is consistently one of America’s 10 most-visited national parks, and we’re looking forward to an even busier year as we celebrate Acadia’s centennial [anniversary].”

The $248 million in spending supported 3,878 jobs on Mount Desert Island and nearby communities. Factoring in wages and other sources of revenue, Acadia brought a total contribution of $305 million to the area’s economy last year, according to the BDN.
