AG wants open hospital board meetings

Maine's attorney general is seeking to the open board meetings of some hospitals that receive public funding.

The Portland Press Herald reported that Attorney General Janet Mills is drafting legislation that would require hospitals receiving 50% or more of their operating revenue from tax dollars to allow the public to attend board meetings.

While the bill has not been printed yet and it remains unclear how many hospitals fall into the funding category Mills' bill sets out, Maine Hospital Association lobbyist Jeffrey Austin told the Press Herald that the industry group would likely oppose any bill that treats hospitals differently than other private entities.
