Another brewer set to open in Brewer

207 Beer Co. in Brewer is one of many Maine businesses that capitalize on the state's iconic area code.
Maine’s latest brewery, 207 Beer Co., will open its doors on Oct. 20 in Brewer.
The new business, at 71-B Center St., is being started by Josiah Hartley and Jon Fader, Bangor High graduates “with a strong passion for brewing,” according to a press release.
Fader, the head brewer, graduated from Maine Maritime Academy with a degree in power engineering technology. He started his brewing life under brewmaster Michael Anderson at Penobscot Bay Brewery in Winterport. CEO Josiah Hartley graduated from Husson University with a degree in business administration; his professional background has been in hospitality and restaurant management.
As part of the opening festivities, which will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, there will be cornhole tournament between the city councils of Brewer and Bangor.
“I’m excited to challenge the Bangor mayor to a game of cornhole during the grand opening of 207 Beer Co.,” said Brewer Mayor Jerry Goss. “A little friendly competition is good for all of us; in fact, we appreciate the way our local craft beer companies support each other while maintaining a friendly rivalry. 207 Beer Co. is exactly the kind of business we are excited to support here in Brewer and especially in our downtown waterfront area..”
“This is the fourth brewery to open in the city of Brewer in the last few years and we are very excited to welcome 207 Beer Co. to our community and to our downtown.” said D’arcy Main-Boyington, Brewer’s economic development director.
The others are Blank Canvas Brewery, Mason’s Brewing Co. and Geaghan Brothers Brewing.
207 Beer will specialize in small batch ales and American Lagers. The company says it hopes use locally grown hops and grains whenever possible.
