Less than a year after the Portland-based VHS and DVD rental institution Video Port shuttered after operating for 28 years, HAV2 of Camden will call it a day after serving the cinephiles of midcoast Maine for 33 years.
“The fact is the world has moved past the storefront DVD rental business, and it’s time for us to say goodbye,” Caroline Morong, who owns HAV2 with her husband, said in a release about the closure.
In addition to renting out every conceivable format from LaserDisc to Blue-Ray the company also sold and rented audio-video equipment for the amateur Steven Spielbergs and Francis Ford Coppolas of Camden.
HAV2 — which was known for several years as Harbor Audio Video — will continue renting movies through April, and will hold a going-out-of-business sale through May before shuttering on June 1.
