Appeal of Walsh hotel denied
Bar Harbor's board of appeals has rejected a request from a rival hotelier to revoke the approval of Tom Walsh's proposed hotel.
The board of appeals voted 4-1 to turn down the appeal from David Witham, who argued, among other items, that Walsh's hotel plans do not have enough parking and inaccurately show the number of rooms the hotel will have, according to the Ellsworth American. Ed Bearor, Witham's attorney, said he would likely bring the case as a lawsuit to the Maine Superior Court. Witham is Hancock County's biggest hotel owner with nearly a dozen properties in the region. Last year, he bought the Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn in Ellsworth, the White Birches hotel and golf course in Hancock and the Best Western in Salisbury, among others.
Last month, the board of appeals approved Walsh's proposed $12 million hotel on West Street, after it was rejected by the town's planning board. Walsh is the founder of New Hampshire-based Ocean Properties.
