The Saddleback Mountain Foundation, the Trust for Public Land and the New England Forestry Foundation say that they’ve reached verbal agreements to purchase both the core ski area and the surrounding land of the Saddleback Mountain ski area.
The Saddleback Mountain Foundation, a group of area businesses and season-pass holders to Saddleback, told the Portland Press Herald that the ski area's owners Bill and Irene Berry have agreed to sell the 723-acre core ski area for $6 million to the foundation.
In addition, the New England Forestry Foundation, along with the Trust for Public Land, told the Press Herald that it has reached an agreement with the Saddleback owners to purchase an additional 3,249 acres surrounding Maine’s third-largest ski area for an undetermined sum, which will be preserved as conservation land.
Peter Stein, chairman of the Saddleback Mountain Foundation, told the Press Herald that it’s uncertain if the ski area will be open this winter and that details, including fundraising and sale agreements, will be announced Thursday.
Editor's Note: A previous version of the article incorrectly aggregated the sale price of the core ski area.
