Lewiston-based Argo Marketing Group expects to nearly triple its work force through a $2.4 million renovation at the former McCrory's deparment store in Lewiston.
The Sun Journal reported the company announced the project Thursday, and intends to relocate 80 employees from another Lisbon Street location and add another 150 workers by April 2014.
The paper reported that the renovation of the vacant 25,000-square-foot building will also include first floor space for a cafe and retail storefronts.
Following the announcement, the paper reported the Lewiston City Council will consider three financial aid packages for the project, including: a facade grant (half grant, half no-interest loan) of up to $150,000; a similar life safety grant of up to $100,000; and a 10-year tax-increment financing deal projected to save Argo $147,000 in property taxes over that period and return $198,400 to the town for economic development.
The company says the new positions will be in a variety of areas, with starting pay ranging from $10 to $13 an hour with benefits.
In 2011, the company expanded to hire 50 workers at a former call center in Pittsfield.
Company CEO and founder Jason Levesque told Mainebiz in an email that the Pittsfield location will also expand in the next year, growing from 110 workers to 130.
