Arts to get $300K from stimulus

Maine's nonprofit arts organizations will be eligible to receive almost $300,000 in stimulus money this summer, according to the Bangor Daily News.

The Maine Arts Commission will receive $293,100 in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, a sum calculated according to the size of the state's population. MAC will retain $38,000 of that money to hire a temporary staff grant-coordinator, and will award the remainder to about 25 Maine nonprofit arts organizations, in awards of no more than $10,000.

MAC will receive the funds by April 1, guidelines for the competitive grant application process will be released soon after, and the commission expects to distribute funds by the end of this summer, the paper reported.
