Auburn Manufacturing expansion nears completion

Auburn Manufacturing says it’s on track to complete a $1.4 million expansion project this month, doubling the size of its facilities at Auburn’s Kittyhawk Industrial Park.

The company announced the expansion in April. CEO Kathie Leonard said the plan had previously  been shelved amid the recession.

In a press release, the company says it’s on track for the 22,500-square-foot expansion to be fully operational in September. Leonard said the expansion will help accommodate current growth and provide space for research and development of new products in the fields of coatings, nanotechnologies and heat protection enhancements.

In March, the company secured a $2 million, three-year federal contract for its high-temperature silica fabric and also started its first marketing efforts in Mexico earlier this year.

The company says it hopes to expand the facility again in the next three-to-five years.
