Bangor bus drivers vote to unionize

Drivers for Bangor's public bus system voted to unionize earlier this month.

The Bangor Daily News reported the system's 33 drivers voted to join the Amalgamated Transit Union, which includes around 100 Portland bus drivers.

Bob Farrar, Bangor's assistant city manager and human resources director, told the paper that the move will bring about 60% of the city's 500 full-time workers into unions.

The drivers are expected to meet with the city in the coming weeks to negotiate their first union contract but the city had not been contacted, as of Thursday, to begin negotiations.
