Bangor chamber speaks out on ballot questions

Directors of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce voted unanimously to oppose two questions on the Nov. 3 ballot that they deem bad for business.

The board voted overwhelmingly to oppose Question 2, which proposes reducing excise taxes by half, and Question 4, the TABOR II tax and spending cap, according to the Bangor Daily News.

"While we fully support efforts to improve Maine's business climate and economic development, our board does not believe that either of these ballot proposals would accomplish that," John Diamond, chairman of the chamber's board, told the paper. "Both proposals contain elements that the board believes could seriously undermine local infrastructure as well as Maine's economic competitiveness. In light of that, the board believes that passage of either proposal would be detrimental to our region and our state."

The board voted to support Question 6, a $71 million bond for transportation and infrastructure projects.
