The Greater Bangor Convention and Visitors Bureau has named Gretchen Chauncey as its new executive director, the group announced Thursday.
Chauncey has a background of managing tourism-focused lodging facilities in Maine and Massachusetts, and says her passion is eastern Maine.
“I’ve been coming to Maine as a visitor for more than 30 years,” she said in a news release. “Finally, about four years ago I had the chance to change that, and make Maine my home. So I did, and I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to decide that Maine would be where I live, full time. The people of this state, its natural beauty, and the charm of the places make this region unique, and I love everything about it.”
Chauncey is originally from Westport, Conn. For nearly 20 she worked at Berkeley-Chandler in Boston, managing the company’s Chandler Inn Hotel, studio apartments and townhouse studios. Most recently, she was the general manager of the Terramor Outdoor Resort in Bar Harbor.
“I enjoyed my time in Boston, although I found that when I had a weekend available to me, I was enjoying the great outdoors, often in Maine,” said Chauncey. “There are so many opportunities here in Eastern Maine during every season, and I love getting outside and experiencing the nature that surrounds us. That’s what brought me here full-time, and that’s why I am so passionate about this state and this area.”
Chauncey started in her new role on April 4.
