Bangor Hydro completes $61M upgrade

Bangor Hydro-Electric Company has completed its $61 million infrastructure upgrade aimed at providing greater reliability in the Downeast power grid.

The Bangor Daily News reported that the company on Monday announced completion of the project, which includes the installation of a 43-mile redundant power line that the company could use to reroute power in the case of other outages in the region.

The project, approved by regional grid operator ISO New England, was funded by ratepayers in all six New England states. The project was first announced in late 2009 and was completed ahead of schedule.
