Webster Atlantic Corp. is selling its three magazines, Bangor Metro, Real Maine Weddings and Maine Ahead. A group of investors led by area businessman and former Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Jack Cashman is buying Bangor Metro.
Mark Wellman, former Bangor Metro publisher, said in a release the company is selling the publication to "move in a different direction in our lives." The sale has not been finalized, and a purchase price was not disclosed. The investors plan to retain the focus of the magazine while also adding new features, and a March issue is in the works. Cashman served as senior economic adviser and DECD commissioner in the Baldacci administration, as well as a commissioner on the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
Wellman told Mainebiz negotiations are also under way to sell Maine Ahead, though the deal is not related to the Bangor Metro sale. Several Bangor Metro employees bought Real Maine Weddings.
