Bangor Savings Bank has elected Michael Cato, senior vice president and chief information officer at Bowdoin College, to the bank's board of directors.
Cato will also serve as the bank's corporate officer, connecting the organization with its communities.
"I am honored and excited to join the board of directors at Bangor Savings Bank,” said Cato. “Continuing to leverage the strong relationships between the bank and our local communities is incredibly important and fulfilling.
"I look forward to collaborating with my fellow board members and the executive team to support the bank’s mission of delivering on its ‘You matter more promise.’”
Cato brings experience in information technology and strategic leadership, and bank said this will strengthen its commitment to innovation and excellence. As the chief information officer at Bowdoin, a position he has held since 2018, he leads the information technology department.
He has over 20 years of experience building and leading IT organizations. He previously held IT roles at Vassar College, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Cato received his bachelor’s degree in zoology from Andrews University and his MBA from Wake Forest University.
Bangor Savings, founded in 1852, has more than 60 branches in Maine and New Hampshire as well as business and loan production offices in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
With more than $5 billion in Maine deposits as of June 30, 2023, Bangor Savings topped the list of the largest Maine-based banks, according to the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists.
