Bangor Savings' new leader to take post soon

Bangor Savings Bank announced on Wednesday that Bob Montgomery-Rice will take his post as president in January and as the bank’s CEO and director in April.

Bangor Savings Bank said in its announcement that Montgomery-Rice was officially appointed as the incoming CEO, president and director by the board of directors this week. Jim Conlon, the bank’s current leader, will continue to serve as a board member after relinquishing his roles.

The bank first announced the leadership transition plan in February.

Montgomery-Rice also will become president and board member of Bangor Bancorp, MHC, the bank’s mutual holding company, effective in April.

“For many years the bank's focus has been on our customers, our employees and our communities,” Montgomery-Rice said in a prepared statement. “I am deeply committed to furthering that mission and leading Bangor Savings Bank forward as we continue to grow and serve the people and businesses of Maine.”

Montgomery-Rice, who joined Bangor Savings Bank in 2004, currently serves as the bank’s chief operating officer. He previously held executive management roles at BankBoston, Cambridgeport Bank and Fidelity Investments.

“Since February, in his interim role of chief operating officer, Bob Montgomery-Rice has worked closely with Jim to prepare for his new position,” Robert Strong, the board’s chairman, said in a prepared statement. “Bob has ably guided the bank through strategic planning for the future, and the bank’s board and I are very pleased to announce the next steps in this transition.”

Bangor Savings Bank manages more than $3 billion in assets.
