Bangor Savings replacing cards following data breach

Bangor Savings Bank is replacing an unknown number of its customers’ debit cards following several data breaches and an increase in the risk of subsequent fraudulent transactions.

Andrew Grover, Bangor Savings Bank’s chief risk officer, told the Bangor Daily News that although he couldn’t divulge the names of the merchants in question, the bank will replace cards if a data breach happened at a business that a large number of the bank’s customers used during the breach period.

“We’ve gotten to a point where we think, percentage-wise, the likelihood of [an affected customer] experiencing fraud is pretty high,” Grover told the BDN. “And so, we’re avoiding the time of having customers try to call and correct the fraud.”

According to the BDN, Bangor Savings Bank notified customers on Monday that they would be getting their cards replaced, with plans to issue new cards by June 22.
