Yet another phone scam has made its way to the state, as Bangor Savings Bank is warning both its customers and non-customers of a text-based phishing scam.
According to the bank, the alert asks the text recipient to contact Bangor Savings Bank at a specific phone number, which Bangor Savings stresses is a not affiliated with the company, and requests that the recipient provide bank account information.
The bank offered the following advice to the public:
- Bangor Savings will never ask for your ATM/debit card information via phone, text or email, so do not call the number in the text message.
- If you are a Bangor Savings Bank customer and have given out personal information, please contact your local branch or Bangor Support (1.877.226.4671) or bangorsupport@bangor.com. If you are not a Bangor Savings Bank customer, contact your financial institution.
- All Bangor Saving Bank customers receive free FraudWatch PLUS protection, a standard feature on all debit cards. This service provides 24/7 fraud monitoring protection.
