Residents who ride the Community Connector in Bangor on Saturdays must find a new way to reach their destination.
Starting Saturday, Oct. 5, the city will discontinue Saturday service until further notice. This applies to both fixed route and ADA paratransit services.
Saturday has the lowest ridership of the week, the city said in a news release.
“Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a position to make this difficult decision,” said Courtney O’Donnell, assistant city manager. “We understand this change to the bus service will negatively impact some riders and want everyone to know that we did not reach this decision lightly. We are taking active steps in an effort to bring full service back as quickly as possible.”
In 2022, the city took similar action, discontinuing Saturday service amid a driver shortage.
As part of the announcement, Bangor said the Community Connector bus lines for Route U (Hammond Street) and Route B (Center Street) will resume normal service Monday through Friday.
The city says it plans to keep the transit center open Monday through Friday, but riders should be prepared if the building is closed. Any change to the regular schedule will be posted on the Community Connector website, social media and the building.
