The Maine Sports Commission has appointed Patrick Caron as sports development director.
Caron is a competitive runner who has been active on the group's board since 2024, working to promote the state as a year-round sports destination. In his new role, Caron will continue to work to bring new events to Maine.
The Bar Harbor resident is the founder of Move Free, an active-wear clothing brand. He also created the Move Free run club, which hosts running retreats around New England. Caron works with numerous running clubs and event organizers, assisting with race directing, media coverage, coaching and fundraising.
“As someone with grassroots experience in organizing regional events which draw people from all over the country, and as the XTERRA Trail Run World Championships ambassador in 2023 and 2024, Patrick will be a tremendous asset to our team,” said Sheila Brennan Nee, strategic director of the Maine Sports Commission.
The Maine Sports Commission is a nonprofit that promotes sports tourism and active lifestyles. Sporting events contributed an estimated $155.6 million to the Maine economy and attracted over 253,000 out-of-state visitors in 2019, according to a study by the University of Southern Maine’s Center for Business and Economic Research.
