A Bar Harbor hotelier has made yet another hotel purchase in the Down East region.
David Witham has added a Comfort Inn in Ellsworth to his holdings. He purchased the hotel on High Street from SuperTel Corp. for an undisclosed sum on Aug. 14, according to the Ellsworth American. Witham told the paper he plans to make significant upgrades to the property, including replacing the carpeting and air conditioning system, and revamp its "management style" and marketing campaigns.
It's the latest purchase in a string of acquisitions. Last month, Witham bought the Hampton Inn under construction in Ellsworth from developer Maine Course Hospitality Group. In May, he bought the White Birches hotel and golf course in Hancock and the Best Western in Salisbury Cove, and in February bought the Quality Inn and Aurora Inn in Bar Harbor. The Witham Family LP also owns the Bar Harbor Inn, Atlantic Oakes, Grand Hotel and Acadia Inn in Bar Harbor. Witham told the Ellsworth American he has no plans to make any more purchases in Hancock County. "I've got my hands full right now," he told the paper.
