Spencer Gray Insurance, an agency of two people in Bath, said it will merge into J. Edward Knight Insurance, effective Jan.1.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Spencer Gray Insurance was established in 2002 and is at 1 Front St., locally known as the Customs House. Elizabeth and Spencer Gray are a married couple who are partners in the business and its only employees, a Knight spokesperson told Mainebiz.
Elizabeth Gray will continue on in the business as part of J. Edward Knight Insurance’s team at 15 Vine St. in Bath. Spencer Gray will not be making the transition.
“We have full confidence that J. Edward Knight will provide the same level of care and expertise that our clients have come to expect,” the Grays said in a joint statement.
The Grays said the merger will mean that their clients will gain access to an expanded range of insurance products, services and additional resources.
"We admire the strong foundation built by Spencer and Elizabeth Gray and look forward to providing exceptional service to our combined client base,” said Robert Wheeler, Knight’s owner.
Knight, a family-owned agency founded in 1898, has 34 employees and offices in Rockland, Bath, Boothbay Harbor, New Harbor, Vinalhaven and Wiscasset. Its offerings include personal and commercial insurance products.
