An expansive development project in Portland's Bayside neighborhood is seeking a special "master development plan" status that would allow it to submit one comprehensive plan, rather than seeking piecemeal approval of each phase of construction.
The Bangor Daily News reported the designation would lock in key zoning allowances for The Federated Cos. project for up to 10 years and would engage early discussion from opponents of the project, who say it is out of line with other developments in the city.
Developer Greg Shinberg, who represents the company, said the company hopes to show how its overall concept is in line with the city's comprehensive plan by seeking the master development plan status for its project.
The company is seeking local approval for the first phase of its project — a 165-foot-tall apartment building and 75-foot-tall parking garage — while seeking the master plan status that would outline the next two phases of the project.
