Route 2 in the town of Rumford will be the site of a four-story, 60-room Best Western Hotel, a group of investors from Pennacook Falls Investments Ltd. announced late last week in front of the Oxford County community’s landmark Paul Bunyan statue.
According to Tony L. Carter, president of Pennacook Falls Investments, the loss of 50 rooms last year in a fire at the Linnell Motel in Rumford was a large motivator for the construction of the $5 million-to-$7 million hotel, reports the Sun Journal.
"That just made our business case that much stronger," Carter said, adding that as it stands now, lodging options in the area are limited mostly to Bethel, Wilton or Lewiston/Auburn, according to the Sun Journal.
Following final approvals, the hotel is slated to open by Columbus Day of 2017 and is expected to create 25 to 35 permanent jobs.
