Biddeford boots airport operator

The city of Biddeford has taken over management of its municipal airport after the former operator failed to fulfill its contract with the city.

Biddeford officials this month ended a contract with fixed-base operator Cumberland and York Aviation because the company "[was] not meeting the terms of their agreement," Airport Manager Tom Bryand told the Journal Tribune. The company was not able to make as much profit as it anticipated running the airport, and its required payments to the city were sporadic, forcing city officials this summer to begin the process of evicting the aviation company, according to the paper.

The city will run the airport for now, but is looking into contracting with another fixed-base operator. Bryand said a handful of companies interested in running the airport have already approached the city, according to the paper.
