Biddeford firm wins Navy contract

The Navy on Tuesday awarded a $12.2 million contract to Biddeford-based Intermat for the research and development of alternative materials for use in the nose tips of submarine-launched ballistic missiles.

The company will also be responsible for the development and fabrication of thermal protection materials and components for new Navy weapons, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Defense.

Intermat will conduct engineering studies, material analysis, material fabrication, material processing, and testing at its Biddeford facility. The work is expected to be complete by 2013.
