BIW nets $14M contract extension

Bath Iron Works has been awarded a $14 million contract extension for work on the DDG 1000 destroyer class.

The contract extension allows BIW to provide logistic support for construction of the next-generation destroyers, according to a press release from U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. The contract supports technical and industrial engineering work for construction and maintenance of the destroyers. The shipyard is currently building the first of three ships in the line, and in September won a $2 billion contract to build the next two ships. The first ship is scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in 2013.

"This contract helps keep workers on the job and work moving forward on the DDG 1000 line," Pingree said in the release.
