Botto's Bakery, a family-owned Portland mainstay, will move to 5 Karen Drive in Westbrook after 70 years on Washington Avenue.
Botto's will be up and running in Westbrook by April. Craig Young of the Boulos Co. facilitated the lease.
Separately, Boulos has listed Botto's 9,045-square-foot location at 550 Washington Ave. in Portland. The asking price is $1.2 million. The property includes approximately 800 square feet of first-floor retail space, around 839 square feet of second-floor office space and two loading docks. The space also has frontage on Washington Avenue.
Botto's continues to operate out of the Portland location.
At the Westbrook site, Botto's will be adding 5,000 square feet of production capacity, expanding from 9,000 to 14,000 square feet, according to a news release. The new facility will allow production to increase by 25%.
The bakery produces 4,000 loaves of bread each week and an average of 100,000 rolls at the Portland location. The new space is being designed for ease and efficiency as well.
"I had to turn down business this summer," said co-owner and Vice President Steve Mathews. "It was like a 3-ring circus trying to manage it all, and it hasn't been easy on the employees. It was either expanding or downsizing and going backwards didn't make sense. The new facility is going to provide a better working environment for a great team, and now there's a plan in place for the next generation."
