Bowdoinham evaluates recreational redevelopment of town’s waterfront

The town of Bowdoinham has hired Richardson & Associates in partnership with Baker Design Consultants to develop a master site plan for the redevelopment of the public works waterfront property.

According to the town’s November newsletter, the property, located on the town’s riverfront, “is underutilized given the area’s potential for recreation-based economic development.”

At a public meeting in September, the town reviewed three conceptual designs prepared by Richardson & Associates. Based on feedback and through an online survey, Richardson & Associates subsequently prepared an updated conceptual design.

Redevelopment ideas for recreational use include safety considerations, erosion prevention, children’s play areas, a non-motorized boat launch, an open-air pavilion for picnics and family gatherings and hiking/walking options.

The plans are considered a potential contribution to Bowdoinham’s business development.

The town learned it would receive a $47,750 Maine Coastal Communities Grant toward surveying work and stabilizing the riverbank at the waterfront, The Times Record reported. However, there’s no timeline yet for the project, Town Planner Nicole Briand told the newspaper.
