Brunswick-based STARC Systems prepares for more growth in 2020

STARC Systems continues it rapid growth at Brunswick Landing, where the company continues to add space and employees.

STARC Systems, A Brunswick company that makes temporary walls for use in structures that are occupied during renovation, is building business almost as fast as its walls go up.
The company said it finished 2019 with an 86% increase in sales, the addition of 25 employees, the launch of a second containment system, and receipt of a $500,000 loan from the Maine Technology Institute for product development.
STARC was founded in 2012 by Tim Hebert, co-owner of Hebert Construction, a third-generation family-owned construction business in Lewiston. Hebert created STARC out of a need he faced to wall off space while building inside hospitals. He found that using the traditional material, drywall, was noisy, dirty, labor-intensive and environmentally harmful.
The modular containment systems he designed are better at controlling dust, are easier to install, and have to led to cost savings for projects across the country, according to a news release.
“I only see continued growth as we deliver new innovative solutions and build out health care and additional vertical markets,” Hebert said in the release.
Today STARC is led by President/CEO Chris Vickers, and in August the company was one of 11 Maine businesses named to the Inc. 5000 list of the country's fastest-growing private companies.
To fuel continued growth in 2020, STARC is investing aggressively. It recently hired Senior Vice President Jonathon Thomas to expand and lead its national sales team. Thomas brings years of major brand sales experience from large and smaller companies in expanding and improving national sales effectiveness.
The launch of LiteBarrier, a lightweight containment system, increases opportunities in new vertical markets like commercial office and education. STARC said it is also finalizing development of another product that open up other markets.
In 2020, the company expects to double its manufacturing space to 50,000 square feet in Brunswick Landing and hire over 30 employees for a total workforce of 88.
A year ago, the company announced a 45% rise in sales in 2018; expansion across 47 states, Canada and Australia; and the addition of 10,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
