Ebenezer’s Brewpub on Pleasant Street in Brunswick has closed and is for sale, but only a mile down the road, a planned new brewery, Moderation Brewery, got a boost Monday night from a new downtown zoning ordinance.
Ebenezer’s co-owner, Chris Lively, told The Forecaster that he may or may not reopen the brewpub, which was advertised for sale by Wednesday as a turnkey brewpub for $225,000.
Moderation Brewery hopes to open within the next six months, business partners Mattie Daughtry and Philip Welsch told the newspaper.
The new brewery got a boost Monday night when Brunswick’s Town Council adopted a new zoning ordinance that will allow breweries to operate in the area without being part of a restaurant.
Daughtry, also the state representative in House District 49, told the newspaper that the partners bought the commercial building at 103 Maine St. last week in anticipation of the council action. The location formerly housed The Looking Glass salon, which moved to 17 Mill St.
A tattoo parlor on the second floor will remain, Daughtry said, adding that the space requires significant renovations to become a production facility. It also needs to get federal, state and local licenses.
