Franklin Savings Bank, which is based in Farmington, opened an Ellsworth business center devoted to commercial lending.
The office, at 130 Oak St., establishes a Downeast foothold for the savings bank, whose other branches are in central and western Maine.
“I’ve always worked here in Ellsworth and [Franklin Savings] had decided to expand and look at other markets. There’s a similar customer base here: small, self-employed business owners,” said Amanda Look, the business center’s manager.
There might be more logging customers at Franklin Savings’ other branches and more fishing industry customers in Ellsworth, she added. All kinds of businesses are on the radar.
Look, a vice president and commercial banking officer, joined Franklin Savings this month after working in the Ellsworth office of Camden National Bank. Franklin Savings’ director of commercial lending, Derek Hayes, was based in Ellsworth for many years before relocating to Farmington and was acquainted with Look.
“Downeast is a great place to expand,” Look said. “There’s a lot going on in Ellsworth and the area.”
Franklin Savings has offices in Farmington, Jay, Rangeley, Rumford, Skowhegan, Wilton and now Ellsworth.
