Cabot Creamery opens Old Port shop
Cabot, the Vermont-based cheesemaker, has opened a commercial retail shop in Portland's Old Port. The Cabot Farmers' Annex Shop at 163 Commercial St. had a soft opening June 15, and will host an opening ceremony July 6 to coincide with the First Friday Art Walk.
The store will sell Cabot products, New England specialty foods, and Maine crafts and souvenirs, according to a press release. It's the only Cabot store outside its home state of Vermont.
"Opening a small retail store on the Portland waterfront has been a dream of our cooperative for some time," said Roberta MacDonald, Cabot's senior vice president of marketing.
Cabot Creamery Cooperative is owned by 1,200 dairy farms of Agri-Mark, a dairy cooperative in New England and upstate New York. Nearly 100 farms in Maine are part of that cooperative.
Pilk Events and Designs of Yarmouth, and Arlington Restorations of Cape Elizabeth, designed the interior of the 1,000-square-foot store and completed renovations in less than three months.
