Caiola's in Portland sold to local restaurateurs
The popular Portland West End eatery, Caiola’s Restaurant, has been sold to Damian Sansonetti and Ilma Lopez, the local restaurateurs behind Piccolo on Middle Street in the city.
Lisa Vaccaro, who co-owns Caiola’s with chef Abby Harmon, told the Portland Press Herald that stepping away from running the restaurant will allow them to spend time with their families, a rarity when running the popular eatery.
“We need a break,” Vaccaro told the Press Herald. “Every time we make plans to go see our families, something happens and we can’t go.”
Vaccaro told the Press Herald the decision to sell Caiola’s to Sansonetti and Lopez was driven by their desire to keep the restaurant’s 30 employees on board. Several other out-of-state buyers had said that they would likely close the restaurant and start from the ground up.
