Camden ponders development moratorium

A Camden businessman is circulating a petition to prevent a local marina from developing residences on the town's waterfront.

Leonard Lookner, who owns the Waterfront Restaurant on Camden Harbor, is upset by Wayfarer Marine's plans to convert part of its property on the waterfront into residences, the Camden Herald reported last week.

Lookner's petition asks the town to pass a six-month moratorium on residential development in the town's Harbor Business District in order to preserve marine-related businesses on the harbor.

Wayfarer Marine's proposed development would require a zoning change, which residents will vote on this November. If Lookner's petition receives the required 275 signatures, voters would decide on the moratorium this November, the paper said.
