CEO survey ranks Maine No. 32 for business

An annual survey by Chief Executive magazine and its website, ChiefExecutive.net, has ranked Maine 32nd in the country for the best place to do business. This year's ranking moves Maine up from No. 36.

The ranking is based on a survey of U.S. CEOs and data on taxes, employment and other factors from national agencies. Maine earned two stars in taxation and regulations, and four stars in the categories of work force quality and living environment. It also cited Idexx, Wright Express and Camden National as key companies, and ranked Maine positive in its development trend indicator, stating, "New governor's tax cuts gain business favor and spur some job growth."

A total of 650 business leaders responded to Chief Executive's survey. Texas was ranked No. 1 as it has been since the survey began eight years ago, while California was last for the eighth consecutive year.
