Six months after JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) opened a Portland retail branch, the Wall Street banking behemoth on Monday announced the opening of a branch at 92 Rock Row in Westbrook.
The Westbrook location, led by branch manager Gina Pansire, currently has a staff of nine employees while the Portland branch currently employs 10, a Boston-based Chase spokeswoman told Mainebiz.
Pansire, who studied business administration and management at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts, joined Chase in April after seven years at Bank of America Corp., working her way up from teller to financial center manager.
Chase's newest branch is located in Westbrook's Rock Row development, which will include a $75 million convention center due to break ground in 2023.
Westbrook is also the location of a newly opened operations center for Maine Community Bank, which was formed from a merger last year of Biddeford Savings and Mechanic Savings Bank.
Chase said it's on track to employ a total of 50 people in Maine by 2022 at five southern Maine locations as part of an expansion into the state announced in late 2020. Further Chase branches are to be located in Falmouth, Yarmouth and Saco, in a space vacated by Krispy Kreme.
Today, Chase serves nearly 214,000 customers and almost 6,500 business clients in Maine. Chase has had a commercial team on the ground in Maine since late 2018.
Chase said its new Westbrook branch includes casual meeting spaces as well as self-service transaction areas including a digital access bar, smart ATMs, and free Wi-Fi.
“Westbrook is a community with a rich history and this branch will serve as an economic hub for our neighbors,” Pansire said in a news release. “We look forward to building new relationships and helping our customers during life’s most important moments, like opening their first savings account, buying their first home, planning for retirement, and more.”
Roxann Cooke, Chase's New England regional director, added, “We believe it’s important to meet our customers where they live, work, play and most importantly — bank. The timing felt right to grow our presence in Maine.”
JPMorgan Chase & Co., led by Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon, had $3.8 trillion in assets and $290.0 billion in stockholders’ equity as of Sept. 30, 2021. The company is expected to share further details about its corporate strategy at the Goldman Sachs US. financial services conference this week in New York, and is due to release fourth-quarter earnings on Jan. 14, 2022.
