The developer of Freeport Village Station is hoping to open a six-screen movie theater there by the end of the year.
Boston-based Berenson Associates, which opened the 120,000-square-foot retail complex and parking garage last year, told The Times Record the movie theater would be located beneath the L.L.Bean Outlet at the corner of Mill and Depot streets. Chief Operating Officer Al Yebba told the paper the company has already identified a theater operator for the project, but declined to name the franchise until the Freeport Town Council has been notified. Berenson has been working with the town on the proposal, and plans to approach the council next week to discuss a tax increment financing district that would include a credit enhancement agreement to return part of the property taxes paid by the company, according to the paper.
Freeport Village Station is home to a number of retail shops and outlets, including Coach, Nike and Brooks Brothers. In March, Godfrey Wood, CEO of the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce, announced his plans as a private investor to open a Johnny Rocket's hamburger restaurant in the complex.
