Colgan: Job growth will be slow
Despite signs of an improvement, the state economy will likely take a year to recover, economist Charles Colgan said yesterday.
At his annual "Breakfast with Charlie" economic forecast, Colgan said economic output will not recover for another year, and employment will not rebound for another two to three years, according to the Portland Press Herald. The number of jobs in Maine will begin to grow sometime between May and September, with most growth coming from education and health, leisure and hospitality, and business and professional services.
Colgan, a professor at the University of Southern Maine's Muskie School of Public Service, said his outlook for the next couple of years is generally positive.
