Commission seeks Scarcelli's testimony in complaint
The Maine Ethics Commission decided yesterday to hold a hearing next month to get sworn testimony from former gubernatorial candidate Rosa Scarcelli and her family members over allegations of improper campaign donations. Scarcelli's stepfather, Karl Norberg, recently filed a complaint alleging Scarcelli accessed a family account without his consent.
The ethics commission yesterday rejected a motion by Scarcelli's attorney to dismiss Norberg's complaint and instead opted to seek testimony from Scarcelli, Norberg and potentially others, according to the Portland Press Herald. Norberg claims Scarcelli took money from a family account to which she did not have access to make a pair of $850 donations in his name and that of his son. Scarcelli has denied the charges, calling the complaint retaliation for lawsuits she's filed against him. Her lawyer, Russell Pierce, said Norberg and his son agreed to campaign donations. If the allegations are true, Scarcelli faces a $5,000 fine.
The complaint is the latest in a legal battle among Scarcelli, Norberg and her mother, Pamela Gleichman related to mismanagement of housing projects and ownership in family companies.
