A new Concord Coach bus service that connects Lewiston and Auburn to Portland, Boston and Logan Airport is considered a big plus for L/A.
The Sun Journal reported the service leverages the new Lewiston-Auburn Transportation Center at I-95’s Exit 75, which opened last week to be the main hub for the new Lewiston-Auburn connection.
"Six trips between Portland and Boston — it's certainly attractive to have that connection," Mayor Jonathan LaBonte told the paper.
Meanwhile, Greater Portland Transit District's METRO Breez commuter bus stops in Falmouth are experiencing such low ridership that the district is considering dropping the Falmouth loop.
The Forecaster reported that, overall, one year into a three-year pilot program, the Breez bus has been a success on its Portland to Freeport run. But of its 22,000 passengers in the first year, only 1% was Falmouth riders.
“In the case of Falmouth, we’ve concluded that it’s prudent to eliminate this segment,” METRO General Manager Greg Jordan told the paper. One of the goals of the bus is to
provide fast transit service between Freeport, Yarmouth and Portland, and the detour to Falmouth slows that service, he said.
