Louth Callan Renewables, based in Enfield, Conn., has finished the installation of a 30-megawatt solar “farm” in Leeds, and is beginning construction on a similar project in Sanford.

Both are ground-mounted projects, located on 110-acre parcels and according to a statement from the company, each will provide renewable energy to thousands of homes and businesses in Maine while offsetting thousands of metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Nicholas Sylvestre, managing member at LCR, added that economic benefits from the Leeds project include the creation of 90 jobs for Androscoggin County, both during the installation phase and in long-term operational roles at the facility.

The company predicts that the construction phase of the 28-megawatt Mousam Solar project in Sanford will bring 100 jobs to southern Maine.

Sylvestre commented, “Breaking ground on the Mousam Solar project marks another milestone for Louth Callan as we expand our clean energy construction portfolio into utility-scale solar projects.”

Elsewhere in Maine, the company has installed solar panels on the roof of Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, and on acreage in Augusta and Wells. LCR has additional projects underway in Hartford, Conn. and Springfield, Mass.
