At least three brewers or distillers in Portland released beverages marking International Women's Day and International Women's Month.
Austin Street Brewing released Ascendant on International Women's Day (March 8), while Rising Tide Brewing Co. and Three of Strong Spirits are planning a double release of a new brew and a new cocktail, Uncharted Waters, on March 19.
International Women's Month continues through March.
A portion of proceeds of the Rising Tide and Three of a Strong sales will be donated to the Pink Boots Society of Maine, a nonprofit organization that assists, inspires and encourages female beer industry professionals to advance their careers through education. Proceeds from Austin Street's Ascendant will go toward organizations address women's homelessness.
“Building community is a core value for us,” Dave McConnell, co-founder of Three of Strong, said in the release. “Teaming up with our friends at Rising Tide to help out the Pink Boots Society feels right.”
This is the third year that Rising Tide is participating in Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day.
The recipe for the new beer was crafted by Missy Littlefield, Rising Tide’s quality control specialist and brewed by Allie Roach, one of Rising Tide’s brewers.
"We're thrilled to have Missy and Allie leading this year's celebration of women in beer,” Heather Sanborn, co-owner of Rising Tide, said in the release. “In our male-dominated industry, Rising Tide is committed to gender diversity in every part of our brewery.”
A Women’s History Month and Pink Boots Society celebration is scheduled to take place at RiRa on April 19, featuring all of the area’s Pink Boot Society Collaboration Beers.
