The South Portland-based company’s board of directors has promoted Deanna Sherman, vice president of energy, to become president effective Jan. 1. In July, Sherman will take over as CEO.

In Moore’s seven years leading the company, he has focused on growing Dead River’s core business of supplying propane, heating oil and other fuel products to residential and commercial customers across northern New England, the company said in a news release announcing the change.

“It is one of the great honors of my life to lead this company,” Moore said in a statement. “We have the industry’s finest people and I consider it a privilege to work with every one of them.”

Sherman, who leads operations, sales and marketing, first joined Dead River in 1986. She said in a statement that Moore has set a very high bar, and has given the company’s employees, products and service a reputation for high quality

“I’m proud to be able to continue to uphold the company’s core values of integrity, caring and excellence and lead this company into the future,” Sherman said.

Sherman, who lives in Gorham, is a graduate of Colby College and received an Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern Maine.

Moore will remain on the board of directors following his retirement.
