Developer eyes waterfront concert venue in South Portland

Developer and landowner John Cacoulidis has filed an application with the city of South Portland, asking to build a waterfront concert venue that could seat up to 10,000 people.

The Portland Press Herald reported the venue, called Liberty Ship Pavilion, could be ready this summer if the project gets local approval. The project would be built on a 23-acre lot Cacoulidis owns near the city’s Bug Light Park. Jon Jennings, South Portland’s assistant city manager, pitched a similar idea last year, citing the success of Bangor’s waterfront concert series.

Tom Moulton, a representative for Cacoulidis, told the paper that Cacoulidis would likely re-evaluate use of the property a year or two into development of the concert venue and consider it for a larger-scale, mixed-use development.
