The 25,000-square-foot, two-story food and beer hall at Westbrook’s planned Rock Row development won’t be complete until 2021, but developers are already seeking food and beverage producers who’d like space there.

The food and beer hall, designed by Colicchio Consulting, is one of the features of the planned 100-acre mixed use development by Waterstone Properties Group at the site of the former Pike Industries quarry at Larrabee Road and Brighton Avenue.

The food and beer hall plan is for seven tasting rooms, 15 food vendors and capacity for 800.

While there are plans for other restaurants at the development, with full build-out slated for 2022, the hall is considered a centerpiece of the retail village portion. Farther in on the site will be office and residential space.

The hall “will stand alongside destination retail, modern workplaces, select- and full-service hotels, and diverse entertainment outlets,” according to a news release from Waterstone Properties Group.

“Rock Row's Beer and Food Hall is not only an unparalleled business opportunity for restaurants and vendors but an invitation to help shape a vibrant new culinary community here at Rock Row,” said Josh Levy, co-founder and principal at Waterstone Properties Group. “We are actively seeking diverse concepts to showcase a kaleidoscope of unmistakably Maine-inspired food ideas and perspectives.”

Trip Schneck, managing partner at Colicchio Consulting, said, “Food halls represent an evolution in dining out, taking cues from the shared economy model. When Waterstone approached us about collaborating on the food and beer hall at Rock Row, we knew we’d have a chance to source vendors from a tremendous talent pool. We’re looking forward to identifying regional producers over the coming months to feature at Rock Row.“

The Westbrook Planning Board in September approved an 80,000-square-foot Market Basket supermarket for the northeast corner of the parcel, where Brighton Avenue and Larrabee Road meet. A Starbucks at that same part of the lot is also planned. The Market Basket is expected to open in 2019.

A plan for an amphitheater on the site is being reviewed by the board and will be before it again Dec. 4.

Other plans for the Main Street village on the site include restaurants,

The project is bordered to the east by the Maine Turnpike, and Levy told Mainebiz in May it would draw as much from the highway — it’s between exits 47 and 48 — as it would from the surrounding area.

He also said the project will provide thousands of jobs, both in construction and in the businesses that will locate there and generate more than $1 million in taxes.
