'Tis the season for giving, and Scarborough-based Town & Country Federal Credit Union is celebrating it by giving $10,500 in a series of donations to a dozen local nonprofits in Maine's two southernmost counties.
At a kick-off event Tuesday for Town & Country’s “12 Days of Local Giving Local” initiative, the credit union presented a $2,500 donation to the Locker Project in South Portland. Town & Country representatives were on hand at the nonprofit's offices and helped pack hundreds of holiday bags to feed children and their families over the holiday break.
Kevin Bogart, operations manager at the Locker Project, said the contribution "means so much at this time of year."
David Libby, Town & Country's president and CEO, said that the 12 selected nonprofits represent a variety of causes including ending hunger, ending domestic violence, outdoor spaces, and protecting animals
“Our objective through this new initiative is to both highlight and support local nonprofits and to thank them for what they do for our community.” Libby said. "We have a long history of looking for ways to make a difference not just by providing financial services to our members but to organizations that serve our community."
From Dec. 5-23, Town & Country will deliver financial contributions and, in some cases, also provide volunteer time to the selected 12 nonprofits in York and Cumberland counties.
Town & Country has 40,000 members and operates six branches, all in Cumberland and York counties. The credit union is ranked No. 4 on a Mainebiz list of the largest Maine-based credit unions, published in November, based on assets as of Sept. 30.
