Efficiency Maine is accepting applications from commercial, municipal and nonprofit organizations for the second round of its competitive program, which will dole out $2.5 million to large electrical energy-efficiency and generation projects.
Funding for projects ranges from $100,000 to $500,000 per facility and requires at least a 50% match, according to a press release. Ian Burnes, business program manager at Efficiency Maine, said the funding is an economic development tool because “when these large energy consumers use less energy on the grid, it benefits all Maine ratepayers.” The application deadline is 2 p.m. on March 30 and an application can be found here.
During the last round of grant applications, Efficiency Maine awarded nearly $3.8 million to 12 grantees statewide. Those projects are in various stages of completion. Last year, $4.3 million was awarded for electrical-efficiency projects at nine businesses and organizations that effectively allowed grant recipients to lock in a portion of their electricity prices at $0.018 per kilowatt-hour.
