Ellsworth seeks community feedback on planning issues

Ellsworth’s Planning Department is launching a pilot program to give community members a chance to give feedback on planning-related issues that fall outside the scope of the Planning Board review process, the Ellsworth American reported.

The pilot program comes in the wake of a contentious proposal to build condominiums on Parcher Street — a proposal that was ultimately withdrawn because of community opposition, the paper reported. Elm Street residents also expressed concern about the potential for increased traffic related to Hamden-based R.H. Foster Energy’s plan to build a bigger convenience store and gas station.

The city of Ellsworth has been working to establish itself as a business-friendly environment. The city established the Ellsworth Business Development Corp. to attract new businesses to the city and work with existing businesses to expand their operations.

But residents want to be part of the planning process, City Planner Michele Gagnon said. A meeting will be held with Elm Street residents.

“It’s a discussion we want to have, and I think it’s our responsibility to truly be open to what is said,” Gagnon said.
